Motorola surfboard and just about everyday from 2 to 3 or 4 p.m. it starts acting up. The lights go off & on and you can't get on the internet. I even unplugged the cable that goes to it and the lights still were not working right. So I just was wondering if it can go bad or maybe it's somthing else?

Sounds more like it's your ISP service. That said, un-plugging the 'cable' does nothing. Unplug the modem power cord, count to 30 and plug back in. Your modem will reset and the lights will come back up one by one from top to bottom leaving the 'traffic' light flashing.

Yea I tried that but it still happens everyday from 2 to 3. Their coming to look at things next week so maybe they'll figure out the problem, thanks..

Yeah, I had a similar issue with my previous ISP.....every day around 3.15pm (when all the school kids got out of class and on the net
) my 1.5 mb ADSL connection would slow to dial up speeds and sometimes even drop out altogether. Actually it was more to do with inadequacies of the local telephone exchange....just hadn't been updated to accomodate the growing internet/phone traffic
Don't have that with the cable connection I've got now....that simply chuffs along even when three of us on-line snaffling goodies off the net.

In answer to your question, yes it can (although I think the ISP suggestion might be more applicable in your case). Beleive it or not, most computers are not killed during a thrunder storm by a surge in the power line. They are killed by lightening coming in on the phone line. People unplug the power, but forget the phone. And unless lightening hits your house, it is not likely to come in from the power line as the power company does have a lot of trips on their wires.
The phone company does not.
