I just got a new graphic card nvidia 8800gt and installed it and it has place for extra power so I hooked it up. At first it worked fine but then all kinds of stuff happened to computer, green kind of lines and everything just quit. I thought maybe it was some programs I recently got so I uninstalled them and it still happened. So finally I removed card (which was real hot) and put old one back in and problem went away.. Does anyone know what happened and why? Also installed new power supply corsair 550 watt..

It's overheating!!!
You also have to re-install the graphic drivers.

If you address both those and no joy, send it back for another one....they're good cards and EVGA is as good as any of them.

When I first put it in I installed drivers & it still did it.
on Aug 21, 2008
Did you un-install the old drivers before you put the new card in?

I think their the same drivers. Geforce 8 series vista 64 bit. 175.19. But I think I did..

The 86 and 88 take the same drivers.
But I think I did..

Doesn't exactly give me a warm and fuzzy feeling....

It's overheating!!!

guess he forgot the part that by default EVGA'S run the fan at 30% (approx. 600 RPM).

Download and install: WWW Link

Set the fan speed to 100% or whatever your ears can tolerate.

Address that.

Thanks..

I would not recommend you install any 3rd party software for boost. In case of defective card, you can still return for warranty. Warranty is void if you install 3rd party software, it almost means you broke it on ur own and the manufacture will take no responsibility for it.

3rd party software? that app is distributed by evga, the manufacturer of the card. it may be overheating like yrag says but i'm guessing the card is fried now. yrag is known for his prowess in diagnosing hardware & software issues correctly. don't underestimate him.

Richard,
I believe it is a known problem. Several of nVidia's chipsets are having problems. Check out Techspot at:
http://www.techspot.com/news/31208-nvidia-g92-and-g94-gpus-failing-too.html
and
http://www.techspot.com/news/31222-nvidia-losing-money-over-defective-gpus.html

And this article:

Take it back or send it back and get your money back.

get a radeon 4850!
on Aug 22, 2008
Already sent back..Thanks..  Might check it out..

You might also want to up your power supply, no less than 700 and listen to yrag he knows what he's talking about.

Takes care of that problem. They're good cards....sometimes ya get a lemon....

I see no problems with that PSU.

As an aside for anyone: that link in #14 works on any Nvidia card (XP boots and applies presets, Vista requires UAC permission and applies). Knock yourselves out.

And no, it does not 'void your warranty'....

....unless, of course, they put bamboo slivers under your finger nails and make you confess to installing software.

yrag, thanks for that link. I won't be overclocking mine but I wanted to bump the fan speed up to help it cool. I also like that it displays the temps on my logitech keyboard.
